The Dell EMC™ Analytic Insights Module (AIM) leverages best-in-breed technologies in data management, storage, security, governance and visualization, and brings them together in an all-in-one package that makes it easier and more cost-efficient for more businesses to finally get the value from big data they’ve been looking for.
While each Dell EMC Select partner’s technology plays a significant role in creating a turnkey solution to help accelerate the application of enterprise-wide data analytics for many companies, we, at Zaloni think our technology plays a rather special role – providing the ability for customers to ingest data and manage that data along with its technical, operational and business metadata.
While not flashy or sexy, data management is a key component of big data analytics success. Here’s why. Historically, the greatest challenges with vast repositories of all sorts of data types have been figuring out what’s in the repository, understanding its quality, and being able to access it in an efficient way. Without proper data management, data scientists can spend up to 80 percent of their time discovering and preparing data, making the process slow and leaving far too little time for analytics.
Zaloni’s technology manages the ingestion of vast amounts and varieties of data, from any source with ease, including streaming data. Managed ingestion defines, tracks and logs all steps of what data is ingested into the data lake and automates this process to be repeatable and scalable – this is key, because we’re talking about huge volumes of data – without automation, forget it.
Zaloni enables enterprises to capture technical, operational and business metadata about their data upon ingestion into AIM. With source, format and lineage information, you know what and where your data is, as well as its quality. Without this information, you can’t reliably and confidently use your data. So, what’s the point of collecting and storing the data in the first place?
In addition, metadata enables users to efficiently discover and transform the data needed for analytics. Metadata is the information that powers the data catalog, which gives you visibility into all of your data across the organization. Metadata also is important for enabling data preparation, which may include ensuring that sensitive data is masked or tokenized, evaluating data quality, or executing a complex workflow to reconcile updated or changed data.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly for enterprises in heavily regulated industries like financial services and healthcare, metadata allows administrators to apply data governance to control who can access what data. Metadata enables you to meet privacy regulations while still making data available to more end users and deriving maximum value from your data.
At Zaloni, we predict that a robust big data platform will become central to the modern data architecture in the near future. Our collaboration with Dell EMC makes a data lake approach more viable for more businesses that want to get more value from big data on an enterprise-wide scale – and we are honored to work with the team at Dell EMC.
